Kingwood Park Dominates in the Pool

Both the Kingwood Park boys and girls swimming and diving teams continued their dominant season with each winning the region championship. Both teams finished in first place in the Region VI-5A meet at the Michael D. Holland Aquatics Center in Magnolia on Feb. 2 and 3.
The Panthers finished with 451 points, 113 points ahead of the second pace team. The Lady Panthers finished with 462 points, 99.5 points ahead of the second place team. The top two finishers in each event automatically advanced to the state meet. The next eight fastest swimmers among the eight regions also advanced to the state meet as call-ups. The Panthers qualified for the state meet in eight events. They finished first in seven events and had multiple people qualify in three events.They won all three of the relay events, which are worth double the points of individual races. The Lady Panthers qualified for the state meet in nine events. They finished first in two events and had multiple people qualify in three events, including qualifying four swimmers for the state meet in the 100 yard freestyle race. They qualified for the state meet in all three of the relay events, winning two and finishing in second in the other.
