PHS Robotics Team Bests its competition

The Porter High School Robotics Team, along with the help from the NCISD Cosmetology students and the White Oak Middle School Robotics Club, competed in the South East Texas BEST Robotic Competition at Sam Houston State University. The students competed in two categories, "Best Robot" and "Best Overall.” PHS’s team finished second place in both categories and advanced to the Texas BEST Regional Competition.

Robotics teacher William Heeter reported, “In the Robot Competition, Leonidas was awesome, even partially broken he continued to rack up points.”

The "Best Overall" award consisted of seven gradable areas including booth display. NCISD Cosmetology students provided support by volunteering to provide face painting.

“We always had a crowd at our booth and while there, the customers were told about our robot. We had the WOMS (students) there also to help in the cheering and see how much fun high school can be.”

The PHS Robotics Team also received a special award for "Best Heart" when the PHS Pit Crew went to the rescue of another team during the competition.

The team will compete next at the Texas BEST Regional Competition on November 8th and 9th at the Curtis Culwell Center in Dallas.
