Texas Sawmill Festival offers guests a glimpse into the past
Like a glance back to the days where sawmills were a regular business around East Montgomery County, the annual Texas Sawmill Festival 2014 will bring history back to life.
The Texas Sawmill Festival 2014 is set for April 26 in the parking lot of the East Montgomery County Improvement District building starting at 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will feature fun for the whole family.
“There used to be sawmills all around the community and that is how most of the communities were founded,” Rick Hatcher, president of the Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County, said. “This event is great for the whole family and a way to remember the history of the area.”
Throughout the day, there will be craft vendors, food concessions, historical displays by the East Montgomery County Historical Society, live music, carnival games, school choirs, dance performances, rock wall and petting zoo.
The EMC Historical Society traditionally has a booth full of items that were used back in the day to make things such as cotton. They will also have history books and photos on hand that allows for guests to see what the area was like in the past.
The Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County, the host of the event, partnered with local schools, library and fire departments to provide fun for the whole community.
“We hope this event continues to grow and grows even bigger than it is right now,” Hatcher said. “At this moment, we are about to overflow the parking lot of EMCID because we have so many different vendors and activities.”
The Texas Sawmill Festival 2014 is free to the public and there will be parking available in the adjacent parking lot for New Caney Independent School District.
